Position Overview

Responsible for assisting in developing communication material and will also assist in maximizing the impact of these initiatives. May also be responsible for providing support in the development, planning, implementation and measurement of community relations initiatives.
 



Job Responsibilities

  • Support critical business issues and consult with key internal and external 
  • stakeholders to ensure sufficient communication support for potential issues.
  • Serve as member of crisis team and support company’s crisis communication plan, as needed, and ensure all appropriate steps are taken to respond accordingly in case of an emergency.
  • Assist with development of business-specific communication strategies 
  • and tactics that are appropriately aligned with ServiceMaster’s vision and core
  • objectives, business unit priorities and audience needs.
  • Develop and support enterprise-wide associate communication and activities,
  • including executive communications, town hall meetings, HR communication
  • and intranet content development/management.
  • Act as in-house communications consultant to internal clients on communication methods, processes, messaging, budgeting and effectiveness.
  • Continually review and assess various business markets and industry trends
  • to identify and act upon important issues, communication opportunities and to
  • enhance community relations strategy.
  • Write, edit, design and ensure timely distribution of all print and electronic communication materials including intranet, newsletters, talking points, FAQs, etc.
  • Develop content for and manage all aspects of traditional communication vehicles, including face-to-face, print, video and Web-based.
  • Design best-in-class processes that are built from qualitative and quantitative
  • measurement of all major communication initiatives including helping to shift
  • the company to a digital mindset and maximize company digital technologies.
  • Foster a culture of communication that drives employee engagement for volunteer events while maintaining an event management tool and delivering best
  • in class events that support business unit/brand strategy and goals.
  • May assist in development and implementation of enterprise-wide community relations communications including an integrated community relations calendar.
  • Manage agency resources and monitor performance metrics.
  • May support public relations efforts to deliver strategy, goals and metrics, to achieve increase in brand awareness.
  • Facilitate online conversations or inquires on social media for the brand, com-
  • munity relations campaigns and other opportunities.
     

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Six Sigma certification preferred
  • A minimum of 5+ years of related corporate communications/internal communications experience; journalism background desirable
  • Experience in developing proactive multimedia communications campaigns and leading a corporate communications function
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to tailor messages to specific and multiple constituencies
  • Ability to think strategically, but also able to dive in and do the tactical work needed to get the job done
  • Exceptional organizational skills, including ability to multitask, organize, prioritize and follow through on commitments
  • Ability to maintain discretion and manage confidential information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and good working knowledge of Internet/intranet (HTML knowledge a plus)
  • High level of energy, self-confidence, and enthusiasm with ability to work well with team members and all levels of management
  • Ability to respond to rapidly changing conditions with agility and imagination, capitalizing on emerging communication opportunities
  • An advanced understanding of organizational communications and its impact on business performance and associate engagement

Incumbent must be prepared to:

  • Move up to 10 pounds occasionally, by lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise repositioning objects.  
  • Sitting for long periods of time while using office equipment such as computers, phones and etc.
  • Fingering and Repetitive motions; such as movement of wrists, hands and fingers while picking, pinching and typing during your normal working environment.
  • Express or exchange ideas with others through the use of spoken word, quickly, accurately, and at an easily audible volume, and receive detailed information through oral communication at usual speaking levels without correction, and/or make fine discriminations in the nature of sounds in the environment.

Incumbent is required to have: 

  • Close visual acuity to perform detail oriented activities at distances close to the eyes, as well as visual acuity to perform activities at or within arm’s reach with skill, control, and accuracy,  such as preparing and analyzing data, viewing computer screen and expansive reading.
