Position Overview

Under general supervision, plans for, prepares, analyzes, and corrects various income tax returns and reports as required by different state and federal regulatory authorities. Ensures compliance with applicable tax laws through the preparation and review of various documents in accordance with established departmental guidelines and timeframes. Assists with accounting for income taxes.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepares moderately complex federal and/or state income tax returns.
  • May prepare account reconciliations and payment requests.
  • Conducts tax research and works on special projects as assigned.
  • Assists with tax audits.
  • May assist in developing tax planning recommendations.
  • Assists with quarterly and annual accounting for income taxes.
  • Helps business unit accurately record income tax entries.
  • May perform cost/benefit analyses of various transactions and structures.
  • May train or provide guidance to tax analyst.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a tax concentration with an accounting program from an accredited college or university required.
  • Master’s degree in taxation or CPA license preferred.
  • 1 year of previous income tax experience with a Big 4 Accounting Firm or Fortune 500 Company a plus.
  • Experience in income tax research, corporate and partnership taxation, forecasting, and accounting for income taxes preferred.
  • Ability to analyze financial data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Fundamental understanding of accounting principles and concepts required.
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues as a team member.
  • Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Strong project management, analytical, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize
  • Working knowledge of income tax return preparation software, online research tools, and general ledger programs preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel spreadsheets and Word.
  • Results driven with ability to take initiative and meet deadlines.

Incumbent must be prepared to:

  • Move up to 10 pounds occasionally, by lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise repositioning objects.
  • Sitting for long periods of time while using office equipment such as computers, phones and etc.
  • Fingering and Repetitive motions; such as movement of wrists, hands and fingers while picking, pinching and typing during your normal working environment.
  • Express or exchange ideas with others through the use of spoken word, quickly, accurately, and at an easily audible volume, and receive detailed information through oral communication at usual speaking levels without correction, and/or make fine discriminations in the nature of sounds in the environment.

Incumbent is required to have:

  • Close visual acuity to perform detail oriented activities at distances close to the eyes, as well as visual acuity to perform activities at or within arm’s reach with skill, control, and accuracy, such as preparing and analyzing data, viewing computer screen and expansive reading.

Incumbent will be subject to:

  • Inside working conditions: The change of building environment such as with or without air conditioning and heating.
