Position Overview

Responsible for supervising and providing guidance to a team of Payroll Associates in accordance to established policies and management guidance.



Job Responsibilities

  • Supervises staff ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll. Assigns duties and examines work for conformance to policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the resolution of highly complex and escalated payroll issues and situations.
  • Provides direction to payroll associates according to established policies
  • Assists with period end financial close by overseeing the processing of all payroll and labor related journal entries.
  • Ensures continuous process improvement; maintains measurements of effectiveness on current processes against benchmark metrics
  • Recommends changes to department payroll policies and procedures to enhance effectiveness
  • Maintains support documentation in an organized fashion.
  • Assists with special project as requested.
  • Facilitates strong customer service relationships with external/internal personnel and peers.
  • Provides expertise and support to ensure that payroll data remain current and accurate
  • Acts as a subject matter expert to all members of the team on payroll matters
  • Adheres to Payroll internal audit control processes (Sarbanes Oxley Act- SOX).
  • Adheres to company Policies and Procedures. 
  • Participates in applicable training programs.
  • Stays abreast of multi-state regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Performs responsibilities to help ensure department benchmarks and goals are met or exceeded.
  • Maintains confidentiality with all payroll information.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Advanced education not required, but considered a plus
  • Previous payroll processing experience preferred; 5 or more years of experience processing multi-state payroll
  • Certified Payroll Professional considered a plus
  • Organizational skills- proactively prioritizes assigned responsibilities and works efficiently
  • Communicates clearly and concisely with peers, leadership and customers.
  • Establishes and maintains long-term customer relationships, building trust and respect by consistently meeting and exceeding expectations
  • Articulates knowledge and understanding of organizational policies, procedures and systems; including an understanding of internal controls within a consolidated payroll processing environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with angry and/or upset associates
  • Ability to handle stressful situations

Incumbent must be prepared to:

  • Move up to 10 pounds occasionally, by lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise repositioning objects.
  • Sitting for long periods of time while using office equipment such as computers, phones and etc.
  • Fingering and Repetitive motions; such as movement of wrists, hands and fingers while picking, pinching and typing during your normal working environment.
  • Express or exchange ideas with others through the use of spoken word, quickly, accurately, and at an easily audible volume, and receive detailed information through oral communication at usual speaking levels without correction, and/or make fine discriminations in the nature of sounds in the environment.


Incumbent is required to have:

  • Close visual acuity to perform detail oriented activities at distances close to the eyes, as well as visual acuity to perform activities at or within arm’s reach with skill, control, and accuracy, such as preparing and analyzing data, viewing computer screen and expansive reading.

Incumbent will be subject to:

  • Inside working conditions: The change of building environment such as with or without air conditioning and heating.
