Job Description



Position Overview

Under direct supervision, reviews, prepares, analyzes, and corrects various returns and reports required by different state and local deadlines and reporting requirements. Ensures compliance with sales/use tax laws through the preparation and review of state and local sales/use tax returns, verification of sales/use tax rates and taxability matrices, ensures Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, and determines sales/use tax impact by the review of contracts and acquisitions.



Job Responsibilities

  • Prepares less complex sales/use, business license and excise tax returns.
  • Prepares account reconciliations and payment requests.
  • Assists in the handling of sales/use, business license and other excise tax audits.
  • Requires interaction with Finance and operating personnel of the business units and a good understanding of business unit operations and corporate functions.
  • Assists business units in correcting problems discovered in audits or by other means.
  • Assists in calculating contingent liability for reserve recommendations.
  • Assists in the preparation of quarterly reports to the business unites regarding audit status, and a monthly summary to the VP Tax.
  • Conducts tax research and documents findings.
  • Performs cost/benefit analyses of various transactions and structures.
  • Assists in the implementation of tax reduction strategies.


Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university
  • 2 years experience in sales/use tax preferred
  • Property tax and other tax experience a plus
  • Experienced with tax return preparation software, general ledger software and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Ability to implement process improvements
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member
  • Ability to master general ledger systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize
  • Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Word software
  • Good tax research and writing skills

  • Move up to 10 pounds occasionally, by lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise repositioning objects.

  • Fingering and Repetitive motions; such as movement of wrists, hands and fingers while picking, pinching and typing during your normal working environment.
  • Express or exchange ideas with others through the use of spoken word, quickly, accurately, and at an easily audible volume, and receive detailed information through oral communication at usual speaking levels without correction, and/or make fine discriminations in the nature of sounds in the environment.


Incumbent is required to have:

  • Close visual acuity to perform detail oriented activities at distances close to the eyes, as well as visual acuity to perform activities at or within arm’s reach with skill, control, and accuracy, such as preparing and analyzing data, viewing computer screen and expansive reading.

Incumbent will be subject to:

  • Inside working conditions: The change of building environment such as with or without air conditioning and heating.
