Job Description



Position Overview

Provides legal support to department attorneys. Resolves routine legal issues. Performs legal research and analyzes law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, constitutions, and legal codes to prepare legal documents and reports. May prepare legal documents such as briefs, contracts, appeals, wills, etc. Responsible for general file management, keeping management and staff informed on legislative developments and court actions that impact the company. Familiar with a variety of field’s concepts, practices and procedures and works under general supervision of department attorneys. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.



Job Responsibilities

  • Provides support for department attorneys
  • Prepares and distributes reports weekly, monthly, and/or quarterly.
  • Inputs claim and litigation information
  • Creates separation agreements and manages separation agreements process.
  • Gathers document for legal research and projects.
  • Negotiates 3rd Party Agreements
  • Handles legal reserve and outside counsel billing
  • Organizes and files correspondence and reports.
  • Maintains legal/litigation files.


Job Requirements

  • Associate Degree/Bachelors
  • Paralegal Certification
  • Minimum 2 – 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area or a combination of education and experience equivalent to 6 years
  • Experience with Westlaw and Stars preferred/li>
  • Knowledge of commonly-used legal processes, practices, and procedures in the field.
  • Detailed oriented
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to complete task in a timely manner to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as on a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with business and operations leaders
  • Ability to make independent judgment
  • Possess problem solving and analytical skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)

Incumbent must be prepared to:

  • Move up to 10 pounds occasionally, by lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise repositioning objects.
  • Sitting for long periods of time while using office equipment such as computers, phones and etc.
  • Fingering and Repetitive motions; such as movement of wrists, hands and fingers while picking, pinching and typing during your normal working environment.
  • Express or exchange ideas with others through the use of spoken word, quickly, accurately, and at an easily audible volume, and receive detailed information through oral communication at usual speaking levels without correction, and/or make fine discriminations in the nature of sounds in the environment.


Incumbent is required to have:

  • Close visual acuity to perform detail oriented activities at distances close to the eyes, as well as visual acuity to perform activities at or within arm’s reach with skill, control, and accuracy, such as preparing and analyzing data, viewing computer screen and expansive reading.

Incumbent will be subject to:

  • Inside working conditions: The change of building environment such as with or without air conditioning and heating.
